The scramble section of the proposed 9 mile walk

This route goes from Dove Stones Reservoir, along the side of two more reservoirs and up Birchen Clough on to the top of the moor. It then follows the edge of the moor looking out over magnificent scenery to the north and west. There are unusual outcrops of rocks, a memorial cross to a 19th century MP and a cairn in memory of two local men who died climbing in the Dolomites.

After a couple of miles around the edge of the moor to Chew Reservoir, the route drops down to a metalled road back to the car park.

The photos in the slideshow above show the ascent of Birchen Clough, which is a pleasant and interesting scramble. It crosses the brook near the start and then scrambles up the left hand bank before crossing back over the brook on to open moorland.

The scramble is similar in difficulty to the Red Brook scramble up on to Kinder in 2013 but is longer in distance.
